Born on 12th April 1946 in Jilemnice
He spent all his childhood and schooldays in Dolní Branná, a village at the foot of the Giant Mountains, and then in Vrchlabí. In 1961 he entered into a training institution in Hradec Králové, where he received training as a heating engineer - mechanic.
He made his living in this trade for many years but still longed for only one thing - becoming a painter. Since his youth he spent all his free time on achieving this goal. He painted a landscape that was a homeland to him, and he tried to capture it in his pictures and paintings as he saw and perceived it. He was persistent in his interest in everything associated with visual arts but above all in the Czech painting art.
Since he had no education in art, his avenue to his dream becoming true was long and difficult.
One of the people who helped him with his self-education was Vladimír Komárek, a painter and later his close friend, who was helping him to discover the fascination of graphics since 1978. Other consultants of Mejvaldês creative work were for example Prof. Oplt of Academy of Arts, Prof. Mikula of College of Applied Arts, Ji?í Kotalík, Doctor of Philosophy, a former director of Prague National Gallery, and others.
Notables of art life appreciated Mejvaldês courage at monumental landscape composition, potential and precision of his perception and artistic view. Based on their recommendation he became a member of the Czech Association of Painters in 1985. After many years of searching, hesitation, self-education and above all efforts - painting has become his walk of life and mission.
So far, Václav Mejvald has realized 35 individual exhibitions in the Czech Republic and abroad and his paintings are a part of interiors in many institutions and private collections.
