The Krkonose region features the highest mountain of the Czech Republic – Snezka (1602m) and the spring of the mighty Labe/Elbe river. The treasures of this area include an extraordinary flora and fauna and the unique northern tundra on the mountain range (e. g. Upa Peat). Examples of the wide range of traditional architecture can be found in Paseky nad Jizerou and several historically and urbanistically relevant towns in the foot-hills, e.g. Vrchlabí, Trutnov, Jilemnice, Hostinné, Kowary and more.

The Krkonose Mountains have the most visitors during the winter season, when the downhill skiers arrive. Besides the big ski-areas in Harrachov, Spindleruv Mlyn, Janske Lacne and Pec there are also smaller ski-areas to draw guests.
Many special slopes and ski-schools make it easy for beginners to join the fun on skis and snowboards. But the many "red" and "black" pistes will also get advanced skiers their money's worth.
Moderate prices for accomodation, food, drinks and lifts add to the region's overall attractivity.
Tourist season:
The winter season starts end of November/beginning of December. Christmas and New Years definitely mark the peak season of the Krkonose Mountains.
As accomodation is scarce during this time of the year, it is highly recommended to book in advance!
The best time for winter sports is from January to the beginning of March.

Ski resorts offer many services to comfortably spend your winter holiday: artificial snow on slopes, night skiing, ski&snowboard rentals, ski schools, accommodation, restaurants, refreshments and other sports facilities ...

Skibuses shuttling skiers free of charge between their hotels/B&B and ski resorts are available in bigger ski centers. Timetables for skibuses are available in information centers, in hotels/B&B and at the bus stops.

Cross-country skiing fans can choose from over 550 km of machine groomed and well signposted cross-country skiing trails in the Krkonose Mts. These trails are denoted by poles or signes. Hiking trails are marked with standard signs on most maps and may be used for cross-country skiing as well. The signs consist of three horizontal stripes: white top and bottom and a colored middle stripe. (red, blue, yellow or green). Some hiking trails, however, may be closed in winter to prevent avalanches.

Many cross-country skiing trails are connected to the Krkonose skiing route that starts in the western part of Krkonose in Harrachov and continues through Spindleruv Mlyn, Pec pod Snezkou and Mala Upa to the east to Zacler. This skiing route is prepared for classical skiing as well as skating for most of its length. You may also visit the Polish side of the Krkonose Mts. using one of the many skier border crossings. Do not forget to bring your ID card or passport.

If the weather turns bad or you decide to continue your trip on the dext day, you can always find a accommodation at one of thechalets even without previous bookings (for groups we still recommend advance booking).

Maps and more information on cross-country skiing trails are available on the ergis.cz website in our E-shop or in any local information center.

MonkeyPark

On 21.06.2006 at 11:00 a.m. we would like to invite you for an opening of a brand new rope center in Špindlerový Mlýn called MonkeyPark. The longest rope park in the Krkonoše Mountains is situated right at the entrance to the bobsleigh track.

MonkeyPark is designed for the wide public including children from the 140 cm height. It is designed and prepared in such a way so that even untrained tourist or child from certain height would manage the shortest from three tracks. In spite of that (or maybe thanks to that) even that visitor will get a great experience.

The attraction of MonkeyPark lies in sequential coping with obstacles suspended on ropes between trees at the 3-7 meters height above the ground. On the trees between individual obstacles there are special “bases” attached, on which a visitor can rest and at the same time go from one obstacle to the next one.

Before beginning to cope with the obstacles every visitor gets the professional instructions needed and also his/her further steps are all the time under the supervision of marked instructors. Every one wears special equipment complete with two security trims which are permanently attached to the security rope. The visitor is all over the time of climbing over the park qualitatively double secured against the fall.

Nature conservation in the Krkonose Mts.

enlarge picture: * Krkonose Mountains (Giant Mts)

Many visitors don’t perceive that the nature in the Giant Mountains is in a state of serious endangerment. Paradoxically, while prestigious international institutions (Dutch foundation FACE, European Union, UNECSO, The World Bank) help to rescue the valuable nature of the Giant Mountains, we ourselves continually destroy it. The worst menaces of today are not only pollutants but also unregulated invasion of tourism.
You can also contribute to this effort to preserve the nature of the Giant Mountains for future generations by following the visitor regulations of the parks, signs and information boards.
