Nature(found: 7 out of 95 records in category: Nature) The Krkonose mountains are a popular recreational travel destination for many visitors that take advantage of the nearly unlimited possibilities for sports, leisure time activities and culture. During the summer months, visitors can explore well marked hiking and biking trails, as well as the local flora and fauna. Outdoor swimming pools, mountain chalets and cafés offer refreshment and relaxation. Krkonose Mountains is a very beautiful area for mountain and trecking bike tours. From easy tours in the valleys bellow Krkonose Mountains to physical and technical advanced trails over the mountain ranges. If you don't like biking up the hill, take advantage of local cableways and enjoy long downhill rides. You can also use cyclobuses - especially adapted buses for transfering bikes. Except "Zone 1" in the national park, one gets with the bike everywhere. The cyclobus line is a regular bus line in the region of the Krkonose Mts. Buses run from May 31 till September 29, 2008: In the Krkonose Mountains you'll find ideal conditions to practice this rapidly growing in popularity sport. Nordic walkers can not only combine the sport with exploring the picturesque places or historical cities in the foothills, but - thanks to even mountain ridges - savour alsobeautiful views even from some parts of the main ridge or pleasantly reach the spring of the Labe river. For more demanding rises you can take advantage of funiculars or buses that in several spots reach the ridge (Harrachov, Špindlerův Mlýn - Špindlerova bouda, Horní Malá Úpa - Pomezní boudy). In winter Krkonose Mountains offer the best conditions for skiing in the Czech Republic. Especially famous are skiing centers in Spindleruv Mlyn, Harrachov, Pec pod Snezkou, Karpacz and Sklarska Poreba in Poland. The winterbus line is a regular bus line in the region of the Krkonose Mts. Winterbuses run from December 27, 2008 till March 22, 2009: every Thursday and Saturday. Many visitors don’t perceive that the nature in the Giant Mountains is in a state of serious endangerment. Paradoxically, while prestigious international institutions (Dutch foundation FACE, European Union, UNECSO, The World Bank) help to rescue the valuable nature of the Giant Mountains, we ourselves continually destroy it. The worst menaces of today are not only pollutants but also unregulated invasion of tourism. |
