The castle of Horni Branna
Castle Branský was founded by Zdenek of Valdstejn in 1582 and for that time the castle was very swanky. It had two floors, first made out of stone, second from wood with a tower on the top of the roof. Northern ground floor formed curved arcade with four-square stone pillars that included all kind of graffity, writings and ornaments (some are still visible today). In the time of it’s origin it was taken for the head spawn of the architecture art.
During the 30 year war the castle was destroyed with the second floor burned. It was fixed, all graffiti and ornaments covered with plaster, the second floor wasn’t rebuild. In 1868 the Earl John of Harrach takes the plaster down, but only a few ornaments were saved. The castle expands with other buildings. The whole complex makes a square agricultural unit (brewery, vinery, buildings for coaches, apartments for officers).
Today you will find in the castle the town hall and the museum of Jan Amos Komensky, who lived in Horni Branna before his immigration.
