The centre of the town Spindleruv Mlyn spreads around the confluence of the Labe River and the Dolský brook, with a population of approx. 1300 permanent residents. The unusual climate and diversity of nature meant Špindlerův Mlýn became one of the most important centres of tourism in the Czech Republic. Great opportunities for winter sports and proactive relaxation are the main reasons for its all-year-round popularity. Špindlerův Mlýn is not only an ideal centre for all kinds of winter sports, but it also offers a unique environment for hiking, mountain biking and water sports. The hundreds of guesthouses, hotels and restaurants will attract you with their high standards.

History:
Krkonoše (sometimes referred to as the Giant Mountains) became known in the early 16th century when silver was mined in Svatý Petr. There were just five log cabins, a mill and a gamekeeper’s lodge in 1784. This area was called Spaltenbauden because woodcutters working here got one log ("Spalte" in German) every day. An important day for the virtually unknown settlement of Špindlerův Mlýn was 13th July 1793, when Emperor Franz I of the Habsburg Danube monarchy issued letters patent permitting a small wooden church to be built in this part of the mountains. This church replaced an older chapel and was dedicated to St Peter as well. Today’s stone church was built in 1807.
