Vrchlabí TGM's Square - Benecko The observation tower of Žalý

Winter walk from Vrchlabi to Zaly
Equipment: good water-resistant walking shoes

You can start this walk at Vrchlabi’s square. This walk will take you across the castle’s park, around the graveyard and all the way to the monastery. When reaching this point follow the Graveyard street (Hřbitovní ulice) up to the bridge. After crossing it walk up the hill to St. Ann’s Chapel. Here you will be rewarded with a beautiful view towards Vrchlabi and the region bellow Giant Mountains. From here follow the trail towards Knezicka chalupa (Knezicka cottage), where you can catch your breath and have some rest. Next go to Krizovky where you turn right to Hermanova bouda. Walk around the first few houses on your left side up the hill with the direction towards Zaly. Here starts a difficult ascent with a rocky base. When you reach the crossroad turn left following signs. On the top of Zaly you can visit The Lookout tower Zaly. On your way back to Vrchlabi follow the signs to Benecko. On the main street turn left towards Vrchlabi but walk only to Krizovky. After 100m turn right to Knezicka chalupa (Knezicka cottage) and back to Vrchlabi.
